A Family Visit.......

Joshua's Mom and Dad came to visit last week and we had a wonderful time! We went swimming at a friends house the first day and the kids just wore themselves out. Jack enjoyed his Grandpa.......sleeping outside under the stars in the field for three nights in a row. The weekend went way too fast but hopefully we can visit again soon....................

Random Post.........

We do family devotions and prayer at bed time (just about) every night with all the kids. We usually start with some songs then read the Bible and then pray. Each child is given the opportunity to pray and say whatever they like even Katie mumbles when she is in the mood! The other night during prayer time the kids were all excited and praying for things like 'thank you for my bike' and 'thank you for toys', 'thank you for brothers and sisters' and prayer for 'Daddy to get a job'! When it was Jack's turn he had some things on his mind.............................

"Dear Jesus, Please help Sammy to stop being so angry all the time..........Please help Eve to learn to control her temper and please help Abby to stop being so antagonistic.......AMEN!"

Yes, that was his prayer...........Short and right to the point! He is not a man of many words and Joshua and I were kind of lost for words.............we just chuckled a little!

Agriculture Anyone..........

So we have come full circle. When we first came to live with my parents we came just in time to do a little gardening and harvesting with my mom. Now, the kids get to experience the planting and weeding process that yields all the crops in the end. We would have tried to do this even if we were not living here but it has been good to learn from an old pro. So maybe next year we can do it for ourselves in our own home (God willing)........The kids have really enjoyed learning how to garden and watching things grow. They loved learning how to can and make sauces, relish and jelly and then getting to see all the shelves fill up with the foods they made. It was also quite helpful for me to be able to use this as part of our science for home school (which has been very difficult to do given our circumstances). It is very rewarding when you get to see the fruit of your labor. Maybe there is a lesson in this for us too........Here are some pics of the kids sowing their seeds...........
.

The kids helped plant tomatoes, onions, beans, corn, lettuce, spinach, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, broccoli, peppers and carrots. We will have a lot of work to do come harvest time!!
